Margins of Light

I did not reach the title of ‘artist’ easily. I needed more than forty years of practice, research, and experimentation before the title became a truth I could accept for myself, before asking others to accept it.

My relationship with art began early, but it was never simply a desire to draw. It became a long search for the question that could make a painting more than an image, and an exhibition more than a group of works hung on walls.

Throughout this journey, I have not committed myself to one school or repeated a fixed style. I treat art as an open field for research and experimentation. I move through realism, abstraction, expressionism, surrealism, cubism, and other approaches—and toward something entirely new. I do not seek a classification. I seek a language that can carry the idea.

I have presented exhibitions and art projects including Jamilati, Red Line, Ahasis, Mukhtalif, Vanitas, and Anatomy of Absence, alongside local and international participation and other art projects. Each experience is not a repetition of the one before it. It is an attempt to move toward a new question.

I do not paint to explain what I know. I paint to search for what I have not yet understood.

This is why my work may not be easy to read at first. Some ideas I present today may need time to find their place in the context of contemporary art. That does not trouble me. It may be part of my purpose.

I believe a genuine artist should not remain occupied with proving a presence, appearing frequently, or entering every available space. Value matters more to me than visibility. Research matters more than noise. The project matters more than the occasion.

I therefore choose carefully the works, projects, and names with which I associate. I seek experiences that add to my artistic path, not those that merely add another line to my biography.

My work is held by individuals and collectors, but I do not measure my journey by the number of works sold or exhibitions presented. What matters is leaving an artistic trace that deserves to be considered again.

Margins of Light belongs to this journey. It is not an extension of an earlier exhibition. It is a new attempt to approach memory, silence, and ambiguity, and to search for a light that does not reveal everything but leaves enough of a trace to begin the question.

Today, I am proud of the title ‘artist.’ Not because it is a beautiful title, but because I paid its price through long years of work, research, doubt, reconsideration, and beginning again.

I believe the finest achievement for an artist is not to be understood by everyone at the same moment, but to make something that remains open to understanding years later.
